Football in our Time - Stuart Clarke

Available from : Mainstream Publishing

ISBN 1-84018-736-0

"Stuart Clarke's photography captures the passion, comedy and beauty that is at the heart of modern British football culture. His work spans the whole of the game, from landmark internationals and the glamour of the Premiership to the sparse dressing-rooms of the lower divisions and the non-league games played to only a handful of supporters. He has been active as a photographer during an era that has seen the sport subject to enormous change, a time when grounds like Burnden Park and The Dell have become memories and the English and Scottish leagues have been flooded with foreign talent. He has immortalised moments in such sagas as the re-emergence of sleeping giants Newcastle United and Preston North End, the battle for supremacy in Scotland between Rangers and Celtic and the struggle to survive of Brighton and Hove Albion"

" Just brilliant - A must buy book" - Stewart Walker

Football Grounds of Britain - Simon Inglis

Collins Willow ISBN 0 00 2184265

"In the third edition, Simon Inglis has revised and updated his original classic to take account the demands of Lord Justice Taylor's report following the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and the ever-changing football scene of the 1990s.

Old stands have come tumbling down, terraces have been replaced by seats, and a host of long-cherished notions have been challenged by the onset of modernisation and redevelopment. Yet Football Grounds of Britain, with its new photographs and many additional entries, continues to be the first point of reference for all football supporters, stadium enthusiasts and those who cherish our sporting heritage."

"An essential, fascinating and standard work....every soccer fan should have one" - Time Out

"Superbly illustrated, sharply written, it is simply the most fascinating book on football I have ever read!" - David Randal, The Observer

" The dogs b*******s of a book" - Stewart Walker

Great Photographs from the past - compare the grounds and track their development

With tongue firmly in cheek, Mike Floate put together 100 pages of photographs with short commentaries in what was a new concept in football photography - an album style book. Grounds throughout Britain are featured, with current and defunct clubs sections including some large venues such as Dartford, classic grounds such as Bishop Auckland, and oddities such as Nanpean Rovers which was built in a quarry.

Welsh grounds and Scottish grounds each claimed a section, with some staggering venues in Glasgow featuring in print for the first time. One ground is supposedly totally inaccessible, but a broken railing enabled the slim line Floate to risk contamination by unspecified horror to claim unique shots of a lost venue.
